In addition to our popular Iconic Homes Tours and a second iteration of the Downtown Sarasota lecture series, we have new offerings highlighting the places and spaces that makeup the Moderns That Matter: The Sarasota 100, including a Main Street Walking Tour, Spiritual Spaces Trolley Tour, and a Moderns That Matter: Through the Decades course. We are also engaging leading scholars and experts to explore a range of topics and present iconic and contemporary examples of design innovation.

MODERNS THAT MATTER: THROUGH THE DECADES

Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Christopher Wilson takes a deeper dive into the individual decades of the Moderns That Matter: Sarasota 100 with stories of the people and places that shaped Sarasota. Learn more about the Sarasota 100 as well as other buildings and spaces from the 1920s to the present.

AMERICA’S ICONIC MODERN HOMES LECTURE SERIES

Join renowned experts in exploring the histories, transformative designs, and current preservation strategies for some of America’s most iconic modern homes including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, Pennsylvania; Philip Johnson’s Glass House and property, Connecticut; and Charles and Ray Eame’s Case Study House, California.

CONSERVATION CONVERSATIONS

This popular series continues with a variety of speakers and topics highlighting a diverse range of challenges being addressed by cultural heritage specialists from balancing new development with preserving historic resources to adapting older buildings to provide affordable housing.

DOWNTOWN SARASOTA: BEYOND OUR BORDERS

Last year, Architecture Sarasota launched Downtown Sarasota, a lecture series conceived to spark an informed and community-wide discussion about downtown’s future. This year, Downtown Sarasota: Beyond Our Borders brings urban planning and design experts from outside the United States to share a global perspective and relevant case studies from around the world.

Each year, Architecture Sarasota honors and celebrates a pioneer or champion of innovative modern design with the Philip Hanson Hiss Award.
