100 Years of Sarasota School
For 100 years, the Sarasota School has demonstrated how architecture can respond to climate, landscape, culture, and community with creativity and optimism. 100 Years of Sarasota School celebrates this extraordinary legacy while looking toward the future.
Presented by Architecture Sarasota, the initiative includes a major exhibition, catalog, public lectures, tours, educational programs, and special events that examine the people, principles, and places that have shaped the movement. Together, these programs reveal why the Sarasota School remains internationally significant, and why its ideas about design, innovation, and adaptation are more relevant today than ever.
MOD Weekend

The Celebration

Our Process
Launched in April 2023, Moderns That Matter employed a multi-phase approach to assemble and record an inventory of places and spaces that have and continue to define Sarasota.
We began this comprehensive strategy by reviewing previous surveys, research, and studies. We also examined archives, existing local landmark nominations, and National Register of Historic Places listings.
From thousands of buildings and properties identified from existing resources, field survey, and public nominations, a list, the Sarasota 100, was assembled using a defined set of criteria. Architecture Sarasota’s education, preservation, and advocacy efforts focus on the sites that make up the Sarasota 100 with over half a dozen initiatives and collaborations underway.
We invite you to share your ideas for preserving and promoting Sarasota’s tradition of excellence in architecture and the built environment.
