SARASOTA 100 INITIATIVE
OUR PROCESS
Launched in April 2023, Moderns That Matter employed a multi-phase approach to assemble and record an inventory of places and spaces that have and continue to define Sarasota.
We began this comprehensive strategy by reviewing previous surveys, research, and studies. We also examined archives, existing local landmark nominations, and National Register of Historic Places listings.
From thousands of buildings and properties identified from existing resources, field survey, and public nominations, a list - the Sarasota 100 - was assembled using a defined set of criteria. Architecture Sarasota’s education, preservation, and advocacy efforts focus on the sites that make up the Sarasota 100 with over half a dozen initiatives and collaborations underway.

A multifaceted approach was used to compile an inventory of more than 1,000 places and spaces. With input from residents and those who care about Sarasota, a list of 100 was selected and organized chronologically across 10 use categories, representing more than 100 years of architectural heritage and the built environment.
