Re-Imagining Pei Competition
An international design challenge imagining a bold future for I.M. Pei’s landmark Dormitories at New College of Florida.
Re-Imagining Pei was an international design challenge to identify concepts for boldly transforming the landmark Dormitories designed by architect I.M. Pei for New College of Florida in 1965.
The competition invited designers to reconsider the future of one of Sarasota’s most significant modernist campus landmarks while preserving the architectural ambition that made the original project so distinctive.
Finalist proposals by STUDIOS Architecture, Brooks + Scarpa, and Sweet Sparkman explored new possibilities for adaptive reuse, student life, climate responsiveness, and the continued relevance of Pei’s design.
