Modern Masterpiece Uncovered

An exhibition uncovering Victor Lundy’s Galloway’s Furniture Showroom, a concealed Sarasota School landmark hidden beneath a later renovation.

On view at the McCulloch Pavilion starting November 14, 2025, Modern Masterpiece Uncovered is a collaboration between Architecture Sarasota and the Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design.

The exhibition uncovers the Galloway’s Furniture Showroom, a 1959 Victor Lundy-designed landmark of the Sarasota School of Architecture that was concealed by a 1980s renovation.

Through historical documentation, site analysis, architectural proposals, and digital reconstruction, the project reintroduces a hidden modern masterpiece and explores its potential future.

Impact

  • Reveals the cultural and architectural significance of Lundy’s 1959 design.
  • Includes historical documentation, site analysis, and architectural proposals from Hampton University faculty and students.
  • Proposes a digital reconstruction of the Lundy Pavilion for future adaptive reuse.
